Prime Minister Mulroney took to the airwaves in late March to say he would introduce New Brunswick Premier Frank McKenna's companion resolution to the Meech Lake accord in the Commons for study, hold public hearings, and eventually a vote. He said McKenna's proposals should be taken seriously. (The McKenna proposal wouldn't change Meech Lake. It added a companion resolution promoting bilingualism and ensuring sexual equality, in the same way that multiculturalism and aboriginal rights are protected.)
