Premier Gary Filmon and his Conservatives won a slim majority in the Manitoba election of September 11, 1990. The Tories took 30 seats, a gain of six. The NDP, led by Gary Doer, rose to official opposition status with 20 seats. Sharon Carstairs and the Liberals fell to seven from 21 seats. In his victory speech, Filmon turned the tables on a campaign slogan used by Carstairs.
