If nothing else, the Spicer commission's first satellite town-hall meeting proved that Canadians disagreed on many major issues. Two dozen people in cities from Saint John, New Brunswick to Vancouver to Yellowknife got a chance to speak to each other via a TV hookup in early January. Much of the discussions involved the impact of an independent Quebec on Canada. There were a few angry words. But commission chairman Keith Spicer wasn't bothered by the testy exchanges.
