There had been a number of suggestions as to the cause of the Arrow Air crash in Gander, Newfoundland six years earlier, including terrorism and an onboard explosion of restricted military ordnance. Former Canadian Aviation Safety Board member Les Filotas believed a strong clue was Arrow Air's involvement in the Iran-Contra scandal. Filotas said there's also direct sworn testimony from the Iran-Contra hearings that links Arrow Air to the missile transfers to Iran in an attempt to win freedom for Americans held hostage in the mid-east.
