Jeanne Sauve, Canada's first female governor general, died following a battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma. She was 70. In a speech at her swearing in on May 14, 1984, Sauve promised to concentrate her efforts on promoting the ideals of unity, brotherhood and peace.
