The Liberals swept to power in Nova Scotia, ending 15 years of Tory rule. John Savage led his party to a majority government, taking 40 of the 52 seats. Savage savored the moment in his victory speech. (The Conservatives were reduced to nine seats, and although Tory leader Don Cameron won re-election, he left politics a month later. The New Democrats, under leader Alexa McDonough, took three seats, the same number as they held before the election.)
