Canadian peacekeepers were detained in the former Yugoslavia by both Bosnian Serb soldiers and by Bosnian Muslim soldiers. Soon after 55 peacekeepers were hemmed in by the Bosnian Serbs to guard against NATO air strikes, Muslim soldiers prevented about 100-non-essential Canadian personnel in the Viskoko area from relocating to another, safer base. Major Rita LePage, a spokesman for the Canadian peacekeepers, said the Muslim forces knew the Canadians were all that stood between them and the Bosnian Serbs.
