An Ontario woman stabbed her husband of 45 years to end his suffering from Alzheimer's disease. The judge called it a mercy killing and gave her a suspended sentence. He said the legal issues surrounding the case "must be left in Parliament's hands." Eighty-one-old Jean Brush of Stoney Creek, Ontario, later said the decision to end her husband's life was a deeply personal one between the two of them.
