At first, the former Bloc Quebecois leader insisted he would collect the estimated 32-thousand dollars a year even after Quebec separated. That would have been on top of his 132-thousand-dollar a year salary as Premier. But he changed his mind when faced with criticism from both English Canada, and Quebec's Roman Catholic Archbishop. Bouchard said he misjudged the mood in Quebec.
