In mid-summer, the country's newspapers breathed new life into the Canadian Press. The national news agency was thrown into jeopardy earlier in the year when Southam News announced plans to withdraw from the co-operative. But things changed and Southam's Gordon Fisher announced on August 21st that Canada's biggest newspaper publisher now supported the Canadian Press.
