Former Ontario Speaker Al McLean was determined to maintain his position as he was under pressure to resign over a sexual harassment allegation. On his return from a parliamentary conference in Malaysia on August 29th, he told reporters he would not quit. (McLean was forced to resign less than a month later after threatening to sue his fellow MPP's if they revealed the results of an internal investigation of the allegation. McLean's special assistant, Sandi Thompson, has since pursued a wrongful dismissal lawsuit against McLean.)
