Massive power outages occurred during the ice storm that hit eastern Ontario and Quebec in January 1998. Residents at a nursing home in Montreal tried to stay warm but nurse Claudette Monty said it was just too cold. The storm was one of the worst natural disasters in Canadian history - claiming 35 lives and causing as much as five-billion dollars in damage.
