Eight-thousand people in and around Salmon Arm, BC were told to leave their homes because of the threat posed by a nearby forest fire. Premier Glen Clark said on Aug. 10 that he called a state of emergency as a precaution. Seven-thousand other people in the area were put on evacuation alert.
