In the wake of the tainted blood scandal, the Red Cross officially gave up control of the blood collection system on Sept. 28 to Canadian Blood Services. The first person in line to donate was Foster Lohnes (lohw-nehs) of Halifax. Lohnes has a sick daughter who required a number of transfusions and said he always had confidence in the system, despite everything that happened.
