A report in the Wall Street Journal Jan. 21 revealed the rare drama of two pilots battling to save Swissair Flight 111 while at odds over how to do it. Canadian Press reporter Jim Crichton said the pilots could have headed straight for Halifax airport rather than follow a lengthy checklist of time-consuming procedures. Minutes later, the jet plunged into the Atlantic Ocean off Peggy's Cove, killing all 229 people on board.
