Canada's Transportation Safety Board said all of the public speculation around the Swissair investigation made the probe more complicated and perhaps time consuming. The Wall Street Journal reported on Jan. 22 that the pilot and co-pilot disagreed over how to handle the emergency. Board spokesman Dave Austin wouldn't confirm or deny the report, which was apparently based on transcripts from the cockpit voice-recorder. He said that kind of information is supposed to be kept under wraps during an investigation. The crash off Nova Scotia killed 229 people.
