RCMP sent reinforcements to the Burnt Church reserve on Oct. 4 to calm a dispute over Indigenous fishing rights. Trucks were set on fire and fish plants in nearby communities were ransacked after non-native fishermen sunk hundreds of native lobster traps on Miramichi Bay. Non-native fisherman Andre Martin said his livelihood was at stake.
