Alberta apologized to victims of forced sterilization and settled nearly all the remaining claims against the province with an 82-million-dollar package. The 250 sterilization victims covered by the settlement were to each receive roughly 325-thousand dollars. On Nov. 2, Justice Minister David Hancock also issued a statement of "profound regret" to the 28-hundred men and women sterilized between 1928 and 1972 because they were deemed to be "mental defectives."
