The federal and Saskatchewan governments announced a 400-million-dollar one-time emergency boost in funding for cash-strapped farmers on the Prairies. Prime Minister Chretien said Ottawa would contribute 240 million. Saskatchewan Premier Roy Romanow called the announcement in February an important one for Saskatchewan farmers.
