Former BC Premier Glen Clark denied he placed any pressure on his finance minister to fudge figures in the 1996 budget. Clark testified at an election fraud hearing that the NDP ran in the 1996 election campaign on a balanced budget -- because that's what they thought it was. The citizen's group, HELP BC, alleged fraud against the NDP because after it had won the election, it announced that both the 1995 and '96 budgets were in deficit.
