Canada issued a wide-ranging ban on imports of meat products and machinery from the European Union on March 13th. Federal Agriculture Minister Lyle Vanclief said the move was made to prevent an outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Canada. (France confirmed its first case of foot-and-mouth. And Britain was hit hard by the livestock disease.)
