Former 100-metre champ Donovan Bailey announced on May 25th that he would retire after the Canadian and world track and field championships in the summer of 2001. The Ontario sprinter suffered a severe Achilles tendon injury in 1998 and said coming back from that was a challenge. (Bailey's career peaked at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics when he won the 100-metre gold medal. He clocked 9.84 seconds, then a world record time, and won a second gold medal as anchor of the relay team.)
