On June 14th, Stockwell Day said he was willing to put his leadership on the line if a new party unites the right. He wanted his Alliance party and the Tories to hold a joint leadership race for a new conservative political entity by next year. Day said he would ask the Alliance's governing national council to stage a referendum within 90 days. (Day called on the Tories to launch a similar process.)
