Ontario Premier Mike Harris testified on June 29th that he wasn't warned budget cuts at the Environment Ministry could put people's health at risk. Harris told the public inquiry into the Walkerton tainted water tragedy he had not seen a ministry document warning of the impact of the budget cuts. (Harris also testified the Tories had to act fast after taking office in 1995. He said they had to slash spending because of a much bigger-than-expected deficit.)
