On August 10th, the US slapped a duty of 19.3 per cent on Canadian softwood lumber. International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew said if the duty stood, Canada would appeal -- "and we will win." Pettigrew noted the duty was a preliminary ruling. (Pettigrew said in the past, American courts sided with Canada in similar disputes over softwood lumber.)
