Federal Transport Minister David Collenette said two accidents last year involving Canadian passenger jets shouldn't make travelers feel unsafe. Collenette announced September 5th that Air Transat would be fined 250-thousand dollars over the emergency landing of one of its planes a month earlier. Collenette put all the blame on the airline and denied his department's aircraft inspectors failed to ensure safety in the skies. (The Air Transat plane ran out of fuel and had to make an emergency landing in the Azores. The airline admitted to installing a wrong engine part on the plane five days before the flight. The incident came just weeks after the emergency landing of a Canada 3000 plane in Florida.)
