A US special forces raid on al-Qaida gunmen holed up in a hospital ended on January 28th. Afghan police commanders confirmed that all the gunmen were dead. Speaking by satellite phone from Kandahar, Canadian Press reporter Dan Dugas described how the raid ended. (There were believed to have been five or six al-Qaida fighters in the hospital.)
