Prime Minister Chretien shuffled his cabinet on May 26th. Defense Minister Art Eggleton was given the axe. Chretien said Eggleton was found in conflict of interest for having given his former girlfriend an untendered 36-thousand-dollar contract, and Don Boudria was shuffled back to his old job as house leader after only four months as public works minister. (Boudria was replaced by Ralph Goodale, the former house leader. Eggleton was replaced as defense minister by Toronto area MP John McCallum.)
