Canada's only officially bilingual province updated its languages act. The New Brunswick government introduced changes bringing the act in line with the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The act was challenged in court, forcing many municipalities to begin translation of their bylaws. Premier Bernard Lord said his government would help pay for any training or services.
