Emotions were running high in August as delegates to the Conservative national meeting in Edmonton debated whether to open the door to more co-operation with the Alliance. They voted down a resolution that would have allowed the PC's not to run candidates in every federal riding -- a move aimed at stopping conservative vote splitting with the Alliance. Veteran former Conservative cabinet minister John Crosbie made a passionate plea to stop expending energy on closer ties with the Alliance.
