Ottawa announced it would spend 172.5 million dollars over the next five years to improve port security in Halifax, Montreal and Vancouver. The announcement was made January 22nd by Transport Minister David Collenette. He said there will be more tracking of vessels coming into Canadian waters. Collenette said the feds are also buying more specialized equipment to detect weapons of mass destruction that may be hidden in shipping containers.
