HMCS Iroquois slipped its mooring lines and steamed to the Persian Gulf. The Canadian destroyer became the command ship for the Allied support fleet in the event of a war with Iraq. The mood at the dockyard in Halifax was sombre on February 24th. Gloria MacKay, whose son, Master Seaman Scott MacKay served aboard Iroquois, said she wasn't sure Canada should be rushing to war.
