Prime Minister Chretien maintained Saddam Hussein should have been given "Weeks" to comply with UN weapons inspectors or risk the consequences. When pushed by the Opposition, Chretien wouldn't explain what those consequences would be but he emphasized that nobody in the free world wants war. That led to an exchange in the Commons, where Alliance Leader Stephen Harper wondered whether Canada already committed itself to a war-effort in Iraq.
