Author Carol Shields died in July of complications from breast cancer at age 68. Shields wrote the celebrated novels "The Stone Diaries" and "Larry's Party" and won many international awards including a Pulitzer Prize, a National Critics' Circle Prize and the Orange prize. Shields' publisher-editor Anne Collins said the author talked openly about her impending death.
