An RCMP officer was shot and killed on the job on February 28th. The shooting happened in Spruce Grove, Alberta where gunfire erupted during a standoff between police and a suspect. Corporal Wayne Oakes said the dead Mountie, Corporal James Galloway, was a 31 year veteran. (The suspect, a 39-year-old male described as mentally ill, also died in the incident.)
