About 40 demonstrators marched to the Haitian consulate in Montreal February 29th to protest the removal of Haitian President Jean-Bedrand Aristide (zhahn behr-TRAHN' ahr-ihs-TEED') from power. Aristide resigned earlier that morning and flew into exile. Andre Bastiany, who took part in the demonstration, said the international community never really supported Aristide. (Demonstrators blamed the US, France and Canada for cuts to foreign aid that led to economic problems that sparked rebellion against Aristide.)
