Longtime Liberal politician Mitchell Sharp, who personified the term elder statesman, died March 19th at age 92 in an Ottawa hospital. Sharp was a good friend of former prime minister Jean Chretien, who said Sharp guided him in his early days as a rookie MP. (Sharp had been suffering from prostate cancer.)
