The Conservative Party of Canada elected a new leader on March 20th. Former Alliance leader Stephen Harper won a convincing victory. During the party's leadership convention in Toronto, Harper called for party unity, warning delegates that the governing Liberals would stop at nothing to remain in power. (Harper convincingly beat business executive Belinda Stronach and former Ontario Health Minister Tony Clement, who called on their supporters to unite behind the new Conservative leader.)
