Air Canada and the Canadian Auto Workers Union reached a cost-cutting deal designed to restructure the airline and avoid bankruptcy. One of Air Canada's biggest lenders, GE Capital Aviation Services, had threatened to pull the plug on a major financing agreement if the two sides could not reach a deal by May 21st. Air Canada CEO Robert Milton said he was optimistic about the company's prospects.
