The country's premiers met for their annual meeting in Niagara-on-the-Lake. They ended their session by calling on Ottawa to pay for a national pharmacare program. Saskatchewan Premier Lorne Calvert said a federal plan for prescription drugs is a historic proposal that has united the provinces. (New Brunswick Premier Bernard Lord said the provinces were presenting Prime Minister Paul Martin with a golden opportunity.)
