The crew of the battered sub HMCS Chicoutimi spoke for the first time about the electrical fire that killed one of their crewmates. Lieutenant Sebastien Latulippe, the ship's sonar operator, said he opened the main hatch to let the smoke escape. (The sub's skipper, Commander Luc Pelletier, described the fire and the ensuing race to douse it as probably one of the worst nightmares a submariner can have.)
