Tributes poured in after news that Pierre Berton had died at the age of 84. He was widely considered the most important chronicler ever of Canadian history. Berton wrote more than 50 books during his life -- but he told the Canadian Press in 1996 that it took years to become a decent storyteller. (Berton died at Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital of heart failure.)
