Catholic faithful in Vancouver heard the news of Pope John Paul's death while attending noon mass at the Holy Rosary Cathedral. Carolyn Blancard wept outside the church shortly after hearing the news. Blancard said she was sad, but happy John Paul had passed to God. (Reaction on the streets was mixed. Some viewed the Pope as a remote figure. Some didn't agree with many of the pontiff's positions on social issues.)
