Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger of Germany became the 265th pope of the Roman Catholic Church on April 19th. He was the dean of the cardinals and celebrated the funeral mass for John Paul just a week earlier. Canadian Press reporter Mike Omelus was in Saint Peter's Square when the selection was announced. (Ratzinger was the right-hand to Pope John Paul for many years, and was considered one of the more conservative cardinals.)
