The Monarchist League of Canada described Michaelle Jean (mih-KYL' zhaw) as having a compelling life story, and a distinguished career as a journalist and documentary filmmaker. The 48-year-old Jean talked about what she hoped to accomplish in her role. (Jean, who lives in Montreal, took office at age 48 and was born in Haiti. She is married with a young daughter and speaks five languages.)
