Captain Nichola Goddard, of the 1st Royal Canadian Horse Artillery based in Shilo, Manitoba, was killed in action May 17th in a firefight with Taliban insurgents, 24 kilometers west of Kandahar city. Goddard was the first Canadian female soldier to be killed in combat. Timothy Goddard said his daughter Nichola's warmth and kindness would be missed.
