Chuck Guite said he'd appeal after a jury found him guilty on five counts of defrauding the federal government of a total of 1.5 million dollars. The former bureaucrat, who ran the sponsorship program in the 1990's, was immediately incarcerated. Crown prosecutor Jacques Dagenais (DA'-zhen-eh) admitted he was a bit surprised it took the jury almost a week to reach a verdict. (Guite was sentenced to three and a half years in prison.)
