The long-awaited Air India inquiry began September 25th in Ottawa with emotional testimony from families of victims of the 1985 bombing. Bal Gupta, whose wife died in the tragedy, shed tears as he recalled hearing about the bombing of Air India flight 182. (The Air India flight was brought down by a bomb planted by Sikh extremists campaigning for a homeland in northern India. Among the 329 killed were 280 Canadian citizens, most of them of Indian origin or descent.)
