Five people were killed and six others injured September 30th when a concrete overpass collapsed in Laval, Quebec. Canadian Press reporter Peter Ray said vehicles that were passing beneath the overpass were instantly crushed. (Firefighters and rescue workers had to use two cranes and other heavy machinery to break up the concrete. The collapsed roadway was broken up into as many as 18 huge slabs so searchers could get to the flattened cars.)
