The prime minister lost a cabinet minister over his government's motion recognizing the Quebecois as a nation within Canada. Michael Chong, who was the minister responsible for intergovernmental affairs, said he wasn't consulted about the motion before Stephen Harper brought it to the Commons. And on November 27th, after five days of reflection, Chong said he couldn't support the motion, so he had to quit. (The House of Commons voted 266-16 in favor of the motion, backed by a huge majority of MPs from all parties.)
